Marshmallow Based Edible Play Dough!

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Good Morning Family!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far! I've been thinking a lot about discoveries I have made during this very strange time in the world. Have you and your families made any special discoveries? Have you found activities that you want to keep that you may have not found if not forced to be inside? I hope all in all, you continue to find happiness and peace and grounded-ness despite all the uncertainty. As a kid, I remember playing with play dough all the time in school and we even made some of our own. It was always such a fun activity! So today, I have the easiest play dough recipe for you. To make it even better, it's edible! So, super safe for curious littles.

What You'll Need:

  1. 100 Mini Marshmallows (*This only made enough dough for one color, so if you want more colors, I would suggest using more marshmallows. If you're using jumbo marshmallows, you will need about 6.)

  2. 3 Tablespoons Corn Starch (*Will need extra for kneading the dough and making less sticky.)

  3. 2 Teaspoons Coconut Oil

  4. Food Coloring (*I used gel but liquid will also work great!)

Step 1: Combine marshmallows, corn starch, and coconut oil in a bowl that is safe to microwave.

Step 2: Microwave for about 20-30 seconds. The marshmallows will begin to expand and get gooey.

Step 3: Remove bowl and begin stirring with a spoon. The mixture is very sticky at first but keep stirring. You can add little bits more of corn starch as you go.

Step 4: Once mixture starts to cool down and has begun to stick together, add food coloring and stir in.

Step 5: Allow dough to cool completely and then remove from bowl and begin kneading the dough in your hands. You can add more corn starch here. After a few moments of kneading and rolling the dough in your hands, the mixture should become soft just like play dough.

Step 6: Enjoy hours of playtime crafting your play dough masterpiece!

**The dough is completely edible and safe if put in your little's mouth but it doesn't really taste like anything, so it's not the tastiest thing to eat. It does smell incredible since it's made of marshmallows!

I hope you all enjoy this fun and super simple play dough! Have a great rest of your week and know that all of us ladies at Martial Arts Family Studio are here to support you and make you smile!
