Edible Paint!

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

I hope everyone had a safe, happy, festive, and thoughtful weekend! Today, I thought I would share with you several fun and edible paint options for your littles. With your littles being in that stage of curiosity, it would be easy to want to know what paint tasted like during craft time. Most craft paint is full of dye or chemicals that would be harmful to their tummies. I have 4 edible paint recipes for you that are easy to make and worry free if more ends up in their mouths, rather than the painting.

Greek Yogurt Neon Paint:

  1. Any Yogurt Of Your Choosing

  2. Neon Food Coloring

  3. Bowls

Separate your yogurt into several small bowls, depending on how many colors you want. Add 2 drops of food coloring to each bowl. Stir until yogurt has fully taken on color. Your little can finger paint directly on top of their high chair table or even in an empty bathtub. Clean up should be easy and food coloring should not dye fingers or bodies.

Instant Mashed Potato Paint:

  1. Box of Instant Mashed Potatoes/Potato Flakes

  2. Food Coloring

  3. Hot Water

  4. Bowls

Separate potato flakes into several small bowls, again depending on how many colors you want. Add several drops of food coloring to each bowl. Begin to add little bits of water slowly to each bowl. Stirring as you add more water. Stop adding water when you have reached the consistency you want. If you desire water color like paint, add more water. If you desire thicker paint, add less water. **This one isn't as delicious to taste but is still safe to eat.

Kool Aid Water Color Paint:

  1. Kool Aid Packets

  2. Water

  3. Paint Brushes

  4. Watercolor Paper

  5. Small Plastic Cups

Separate out your plastic cups and pour each of your kool aid packets into a cup. The more colors, the more fun! Add a tbsp. of warm water into each cup. Stir until kool aid has fully dissolved. Voila! Fruity smelling paint! You can store this paint in the refrigerator for a few days. Note: Kool Aid may stain clothing or surfaces, so this option is less mess free. Maybe a fun outdoor option...:)!

Whipped Cream Paint:

  1. Heavy Whipping Cream

  2. Mixing Bowl

  3. Hand Blender

  4. Food Coloring

  5. Muffin Tin

Measure out 2 cups of heavy whipping cream into a bowl and blend into a fluffy whipped consistency (You can also add a little sugar if you are going for the flavor of whipped cream but this is not a necessary step). Scoop into a muffin tin. Add 1 drop of food coloring to each section of whipped cream. Stir until color is even.

Who knew painting could be fun and tasty?! I hope you all find some joy in this post and can incorporate one or even all of these into your summer crafting routine!

Have a wonderful week!

Miss Logan
